And a very unclassy blog post title. C’est la vie.
Maitreya. In SL, the name conjures up images of shoes in your mind’s eye, no doubt. Some of the best shoes and boots on the grid can be found here, and each one is like a little work of art.
But we’re not here to discuss shoes, this time. I’ve written the ode to the Maitreya shoe on my blog before, so this time I thought I’d focus on the other aspects of the Maitreya empire.

Onyx, besides her mastery over the shoe, can also twist her prims up into killer hairstyles. Some of my most favourite casually messy hairstyles are Maitreya, and they make me feel like I’ve just rolled out of bed and put my hair up out of my face, while still looking fabulous and fierce (I really hate that expression since Tyra Banks ran it into the ground, but it fits here).
Pictured are two of Maitreya’s latest releases, Charli in Chocolate on the left, and Green in Coffee on the right. I really like the added detail of a bobby pin on Charli, which is featured on several of her previous hairstyles. There’s a tiny little tendril of hair that’s obviously just escaped that bobby pin, and it’s details like that on all of her work that makes Onyx such a master designer.

The clothes at Maitreya have been there since the very beginning, but it seems like they were quickly overtaken and overshadowed by shoes and hair.
On the left is the high-waisted High Skirt in Raven. I’m so glad that there are still designers out there willing to taken on the system skirt. I don’t know why so many people don’t like these, because if done well, they’re absolutely beautiful, like this one. I guess that some people still think it makes them look fat or whatever, but come on…a skirt shape will fix that! They’re a classic staple and should be part of every girl’s wardrobe. I adore the belt that makes up the upper part of the skirt as well, it’s a very nice touch. She made about eleventy billion colours, which is awesome but also a lot of colours to choose from when there’s no fatpack (one of the very few items that doesn’t have one, presumably because of the sheer number of colours)! They are L$275 each. I am also wearing a sheer blouse by LeLutka and the Neyya toe-cap heels by Maitreya, one of the latest releases in the footwear department.
Front and centre is the Sculpted top/belt in Firefly #1. You’re probably supposed to wear pants with this, but I didn’t want anything to detract from it. It’s extremely hard to fit if you’re not well-versed with prims, so I definitely recommend getting the demo first and trying it on. Onyx does include a resizable version though, and three different sizes, AND an AO version of each, so if you’re patient, it can be made to fit you well.
The Boyfriend Jeans were one of my first purchases upon my return to SL. I’ve always wanted bigger jeans to wear here, and these are exactly what I envisioned. They come in several shades, and the wide brown leather belt is definitely necessary to hold them up. Well, obviously you have to imagine that last part as this is SL, not RL. I wanted to keep the look girly though, so I paired them with the IXkin heels, under the Maitreya Gold label, and a fitted cardigan by Fri.day.

I am a big fan of sweater dresses, and buy them from everywhere whenever I see them. I really like the Crushed dress shown on the left, and all of the options. There are three different skirt versions, and they’re all totally different. The cowlneck and the puffy sleeves work well for winter, too. Pair this with some leggings and boots, and you’ll be stylish and warm throughout the cold winter months.
The Jules denim miniskirt and the Savoir Turtleneck top are shown on the right, in Light and Fuschia Red respectively. I’m also wearing the beautiful Black Patent Soho boots that are a current gift in the Subscribo-o-Matic. So you have to hear this story. Onyx and Beau released a special colour of Soho boots on Halloween, pumpkin. But because they probably have about a billionty members, a lot of people either didn’t get them on Halloween, or maybe not at all (like me). So to make up for that, they decided to release the patent pair that one could wear at any time during the year. How classy is that? Of course, with the hair release this weekend, and the two free pairs of boots in the S-O-M, the Sim has been jampacked all weekend.
If you haven’t been down to Maitreya in the past little while, you definitely need to, and don’t forget to check the history in the Subscribe-o-Matic kiosk if you didn’t receive your copy of the luscious boots, and check out the amazing selection of hair and clothes! Don’t forget to remove all the attachments you don’t need to be wearing to try and lessen the lag for you and everyone around you.
